Utah Jazz Fan

I don't want to disrespect the Utah Jazz of today, but these two videos of John Stockton makes me wish he was still playing.

Take into consideration the following stats when comparing John Stockton to current and former NBA players.

Regular Season Career Totals

John Stockton
Points: 19,711
Assists: 15,806
Steals: 3,265
Rebounds: 4,051

Steve Nash
Points: 10,907
Assists: 5,890
Steals: 626
Rebounds: 2,252

Jason Kidd
Points: 14,020
Assists: 8,972
Steals: 1,949
Rebounds: 6,543

Magic Johnson
Points: 17,707
Assists: 10,141
Steals: 1,724
Rebounds: 6,559

Gary Payton
Points: 21,813
Assists: 8,964
Steals: 2,445 (And he got the nickname "The Glove"?)
Rebounds: 5,269

Bob Cousy
Points: 16,960
Assists: 6,955
Steals: ?
Rebounds: 4,786

Steve Nash has been named the NBA MVP two different times in his career, the 04-05 season and 05-06 season. His stats per game for those MVP seasons are as follows:

2004-2005 Season
Points: 15.5
Assists: 11.5
Steals: .99

2005-2006 Season
Points: 18.8
Assists: 10.5
Steals: .77

Now compare those statistics to two seasons when John Stockton was in his prime and was never awarded the NBA MVP.

1989-1990 Season
Points: 17.2
Assists: 14.5
Steals: 2.65

1990-1991 Season
Points: 17.2
Assists: 14.2
Steals: 2.85

Can you imagine the publicity and awards the John Stockton would see today in a watered down NBA. His assists and quite possibly his steals record will never be broken. He was that good. I feel proud to know that I seen many of his games live at the old Salt Palace and Delta Center. What a player, better than any other point guard to play the game - no question.

Photos, Photos and More Photos

I've been toying around with the camera, photos and photo editing software the past few days. I've had much more fun doing this than I thought would. Anyway, as a quick post to a blog that doesn't get much traffic, I'll post some links to my favorite photos that I've been able to mess around with the last few days.

The holidays are fast approaching, I hope to snap a few shots that will be worth posting.

It's been a long time...

I've had this blog for quite a long time. I've changed the name and what not, but I know it's been here for at least a year - I deleted a picture from the pheasant hunt last year (2006). I've just never gotten around to publishing anything. I'm going to give this another shot and see what becomes of it. With that said...

It's the Christmas season, and contrary to what some of the people I know, I absolutely love Christmas. I can't stand the cold weather, but aside from that, I really love most everything to do with Christmas. As a child I would lie awake at night Christmas Eve trying to fall asleep, knowing what was in store for me the next morning. I'll always remember walking into our living room every Christmas morning and looking around in wonder at all of the gifts that Santa had brought during the night. Now that I'm a bit older, I don't struggle as much falling asleep, but my anticipation is just the same, except for one big difference. I can't wait to see the look on faces of my children when they walk into the living room to see what Santa brought. It's one of the highlights of my Christmas. Some of the other highlights are watching my wife open the gifts that I've gotten for her. I love seeing the smile on her face as she opens each gift.

There is another other joy I get at Christmas time, and that's the music. It starts early in my home - generally around August, but never later than September. I don't like it then, it's too early. But once December 1st arrives, I enjoy the sounds of Christmas. I like the classics, the hymns and the new stuff. I've become particularly fond of one album though. It's Michael Mclean's - The Forgotten Carols. Like most albums, there are some songs that I don't care much for, but there are a few that help bring the true spirit of Christmas home to me. My favorite is "Shepherd". The others are "The Innkeeper", "Dream" & "Joseph". These ring true to me every Christmas season. Lastly, I have one other reason I love Christmas day. It's my wife's birthday. As crazy as it sounds, I love celebrating her birthday each Christmas evening. It's not challenging for us, all of our kids understand what the evening brings. It's a great way to send the Christmas season away for another year.
